Clinical informatics lead for the NHS Scotland National Digital Platform, Paul is a General Practitioner and Clinical Informatician.  As a clinical informatics lead for the National Digital Platform he is involved in managing the clinical models for the platform data and in educating the team on openEHR.  Other areas of interest include clinical safety assessments, clinical terminologies and interoperability.

Hanna Pohjonen, PhD

Hanna is a healthcare IT consultant at Rosaldo Oy (her own consultancy company). She has worked in 30 different countries in Europe, North-America, Middle East and Asia; she is specialized in big regional and national healthcare IT/eHealth projects. She has an extensive market knowledge in the area. She has provided consultancy regarding healthcare information systems and IT architectures, vendor neutral archiving, data sharing (XDS, openEHR), shared workflow, data privacy and security services as well as innovative eHealth applications and services, especially across organizational and national borders. She has special experience in benchmarking, IT and procurement strategies and roadmaps, cost/benefit analyses in the whole life cycle of the eHealth investment, quality assurance, applying new innovative technologies, change management and development of new service models based on IT tools and services. 
Before consultancy she worked in research both in UK and Finland, hospital environment and healthcare financing. She also represented Finland in eHealth matters in the European Commission.

Heather Leslie MD, FRACGP, FACHI

Heather is an experienced clinician and health informatician, currently the co-lead of the Clinical Models program at the openEHR International and principal at Atomica Informatics.

She has a strong background in information modelling, especially design and clinical verification of atomic health data; a deep understanding of clinical knowledge governance, data quality and safety; and extensive experience in clinician and domain expert engagement. She has also had a long history of involvement in digital health standards, including coordinating the openEHR clinical modelling program since inception in 2008, and as an Australian representative at ISO TC215 for 5 years.

Ian McNicoll, MBChB, MSc

Ian is a former Scottish GP, and has been involved in healthcare informatics for nearly 30 years, working with and promoting openEHR technologies for the last 8 years, initially with Ocean Informatics and latterly as an independent consultant.

His current focus is on the promotion of the Apperta open e-health platform ecosystem, with openEHR at its core, and the development of a related Development Platform, adopted by NHS England as a key part of their Code4Health initiative.

Monica Jones, BSc (Hons) PGCE PGDip MBCS CITP MInstLM

Monica is the Chief Data Officer for the HDRUK Data Research Hub for Cancer – DATA-CAN, Associate Director HDR North and also the Executive Lead for Population Health Management for the Yorkshire and Humber Care Record (YHCR). 

A highly motivated technical expert and leader with extensive Healthcare and Life Sciences knowledge and experience. ISEB qualified Enterprise and Solutions Architect with a proven track record of designing and delivering complex, high value solutions to exceptional standards. She has many years’ experience defining and directing current and future information systems. As the Managing Director of Animo Consultancy Ltd she has provided consultancy services for CRUK, MRC, Genomics England, NHS England and the MOD.

Her NHS frontline experience most recently was as CIO at the Rotherham NHS FT where she was responsible for the leadership, development and delivery of high quality Business Intelligence (BI) and analytics support, to inform the decision making ability of clinicians, staff and managers at all levels of the organisation (from ward to board). The Trust was rated “Outstanding” for Digital in 2019. 

An effective communicator used to working on major public and private sector initiatives, who is able to integrate teams to achieve their maximum potential. International clinical terminology and data standards (SNOMED CT, ICD-10, HL7 FHIR) expert promoting safe and effective health information for better patient outcomes. She is the Deputy Chair of the NHS Digital Data Design Authority (DDA) and Chair of the YHCR Data Architecture Design Authority (DADA).

Prof Xudong Lu, PhD

Xudong is professor of medical informatics in Zhejiang University of China. His research focuses are EHR, CDSS and big data analytics. He has been working in the area of healthcare informatics for over 20 years and led several major Chinese national projects including “High-end EMR Technologies and System Development”. He is also a visiting guest professor at the Technical University of Eindhoven, where he co-supervised several PhD students on clinical pathway analytics and clinical decision support. Currently he serves as General Secretary of the Chinese Medical Software Association which has large influence on health IT domain in China.

Zhejiang University of China

Thomas Beale

Thomas's academic background is in Electrical Engineering (communications) and Computer Science. His earlier professional work was in real-time distributed control (SCADA) systems for power, gas and mining; investment management and finance, and document and software configuration management systems.

After participating in the GEHR project in 1994 with Prof David Ingram's team at CHIME, UCL (UK), he worked since 1998 on EHR architectures, and participated in international standards work (OMG HDTF, HL7, CEN TC/251) for many years. He is one of the founders of the openEHR Foundation, and principal editor of the specifications. He designed the archetype formalism (ADL) and object model (AOM), now an ISO standard. He ran the Architecture Review Board 2005 - 2008.

He has published a number of papers in health informatics and has also presented widely on EHRs, e-Health and archetypes.
